[LGBT Interview] TY - Rapper

EvOn: What's Good?

TY: HEY WATS EVON ?? THANKS FOR HAVING ME.

EvOn: Can you give us a quick introduction of yourself for our visitors?

TY: SURE. MY NAME IS TY BLACK, IM A UP AND COMING FEMALE RAP ARTIST. A LGBTQ FEMALE ARTIST TO BE EXACT.

EvOn: So what's happening with you & the music at the moment?

TY: WELL I RECENTLY RELEASED MY MIXTAPE "WATS YA LOGO ??" LAST BLACK FRIDAY (NOV. 2009) HERE IN NEW YORK. IM CURRENTLY WORKING ON THE YOUNG CROOKS MIXTAPE "CROOK SEASON".

EvOn: Are there any plans for any Collabs anytime soon?

TY: I LIKE TO KEEP IT MY CAMP. ANY PROMOTION IS GREAT. SO THIS YEAR
EXPECT TO HEAR ALOT OF YOUNG CROOKS IN MY MUSIC.

EvOn: When people check out ya music What has the response been like so far?

TY: ALL THE RESPONSES HAVE BEEN POSITIVE. WHAT I MOSTLY GET IS THAT MY DELIVERY AND LYRICS ARE STRONG.

EvOn: what inspires you to make ya tracks?

TY: LIFE. THINGS WE DO ON A DAILY BASIS I MAKE SONGS ABOUT IT. OVER ALL MY GREATEST INSPIRATION IS MY APPETITE FOR SUCCESS.

EvOn: what's the Gay hip hop scene like in the US?

TY: THERES A NEW WORD WE'VE BEEN USING "MIXXY". LOL THAT DESCRIBES IT BEST. ITS VERY LARGE AND EVERYONE SEEMS TO KNOW EACH OTHER SOME WAY. WHETHER ITS THROUGH FRIENDSHIP, BEEF, DATING, ETC.

EvOn: How Hard is it to make it in this industry as a female Rapper, and is being Gay important to sale your music or should you keep ya sexuality to your selfs?

TY: I WOULDNT SAY ITS HARD MAKING IT AS A FEMALE RAPPER, BUT I WILL SAY THE TRY TO DOWNGRADE YOU SOMETIMES. I HONESTLY THINK ITS SUBCONSCIOUSLY DONE. LIKE THEY'LL SAY OH SHE'S THE BEST FEMALE RAPPER NOT EVEN PLACING FEMALES IN THE SAME BRACKET WHERE THEY CAN BE COMPARED TO MALES. I'VE BEEN AROUND MALE ARTIST WHO MOST OF THE TIME IM MUCH BETTER THEN, AND THEY'LL MAKE A STATEMENT LIKE THAT. BEING GAY HASNT BEEN IMPORTANT FOR MY SELLS WITH THE 1ST MIXTAPE, BECAUSE I DIDNT ATTACK THAT CROWD. I ATTACKED BIGGER CROWDS THAT ARE DIVERSE AND MOSTLY STRAIGHT. I DIDNT WANT TO OFFEND OR BW PUSHY WITH MY LIFESTYLE. I LET THEM GET USED TO ME 1ST THEN I THROUGH A FEW TRACKS OUT FOR THE LADIES.

EvOn: Are there any other artists from the US/UK or from the gay scene that we should be looking out for right now?

TY: THERE'S ANOTHER STUD/AG IN MY CAMP. HER NAME IS CHI CHI L BABY. SHE'S FEATURED ON MY "WATS YA LOGO ??" MIXTAPE AND ALSO ON THE UNRELEASED YOUNG CROOK MIXTAPE "CROOKS SEASON".

EvOn: If you wasn't making music what do you think you would be doing right now?

TY: BASKETBALL WAS MY 1ST LOVE. MUSIC BUMPED IT OUT THE WAY. SO I GUESS IF I NEVER PICKED THE PEN UP AND WOULD STILL BE PLAYING BALL.

EvOn: How important do you think it is for new artist’s to know their history and appreciate the different elements of Hiphop even if they don’t partake in them?

TY: I FEEL ITS VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW THE ELEMENTS OF ANYTHING YOUR GETTING INVOLVED IN IT. AND ITS ALSO ABOUT RESPECT. RESPECT THOSE THAT LAID THE TEMPLATE BUT YOU START BUILDING ON IT.

EvOn: any final words / shoutouts before we finish?
